Payment processing for moving companies
Collect the Deposit, the COD, and the Final — And Know If It Will Clear
Van line agents at Allied, Atlas, Mayflower, North American, and United collect deposits, COD, and finals on the order — ACH, credit, or debit through a PCI-compliant portal. See whether a card or bank payment is likely to clear before you collect. One payment story. No Square app on the side.

Questions
Do moving companies need PCI DSS compliance if we use Square?
Yes. Square does not retire your PCI DSS questions, and it still lives off the order. If your team handles card data or stitches receipts onto jobs by hand, you still have a compliance and reconciliation problem. A PCI-compliant hosted portal keeps card numbers with the processors. Mover Advantage does not store full payment card numbers. See https://moveradvantage.io/privacy.
Can we take ACH for a household-goods invoice, and how do we know it will clear?
Yes. Customers pay the household-goods invoice by ACH, credit, or debit through the portal. ACH verification gives you insight into whether a bank payment is likely to clear before you collect. It is not a guarantee, and ACH is not real-time like a card authorization.
What's the difference between card authorization and ACH verification?
Card authorization is real-time: the issuer approves a hold before you collect. ACH verification confirms the bank account can accept a debit — it is not real-time like a card auth, and it does not guarantee funds. Both give you insight into whether a payment is likely to clear.
Are moving companies high-risk for credit card processing?
Often, yes. Household-goods moving is frequently treated as high-risk — large tickets, payment before or at delivery, and chargeback exposure. That does not mean you skip PCI-compliant payment processing. It means you collect ACH, credit, and debit on the order through a hosted portal, not a Square app on the side.
Can crews collect the balance at delivery without a separate terminal?
Yes. Collect at delivery on the same order the office already sees. The customer pays ACH, credit, or debit through the portal. No Square dongle. No separate terminal. COD is the next line in the same payment story as the deposit and the final.
Will payments show on the same order as the invoice and van line settlement?
Yes. Funds are tracked, reconciled, and recorded in one system. The payment sits on the same order as the invoice and the van line settlement. Accounts receivable does not rekey a Square batch against an agent statement.
Do we still need a merchant account if payments are in Mover Advantage?
Yes. Mover Advantage is the PCI-compliant hosted portal on the order — not your merchant account. Processors handle the card number. You still need a merchant account to settle funds. Payments in Mover Advantage means the customer pays on the job, and the money is recorded there. It does not replace the processor.
Can customers pay deposits online before move day?
Yes. The deposit is the first line in the same payment story as COD and the final. Customers pay ACH, credit, or debit through the PCI-compliant portal before the truck rolls. You see it on the order — not in a Square email you forward to accounts receivable.
